Will Cobbetts pay my GDL/LPC fees if I accept a training contract with the firm? What about a maintenance grant?
Yes to both. Our offer of a training contract is accompanied by a financial commitment to you. We will pay your GDL and LPC+ course fees. In addition, the firm will support you during your LPC studies in the form of a maintenance grant of £5000.
Does Cobbetts offer both easter and summer vacation placements?
We only offer summer vacation placements. They are one week placements in our Birmingham, Leeds and Manchester offices which are well organised and structured to give students a real idea of what it would be like to be a trainee with the firm.
Does Cobbetts conduct interviews for the vacation placements?
Yes. You will be required to attend a short interview. More details are provided in advance of the assessment centre.
Does the firm offer any client secondments?
Yes. These are based on the needs of the client and are an excellent experience - a real opportunity to understand the clients business.
Can I still apply if I have/expect to attain a 2:2?
Normally, we only look at those with a 2.1. There would have to be mitigating circumstances for us to look at your application if you have a 2.2. If you would like to discuss your application you can contact the graduate recruitment by emailing: gr8training@cobbetts.com
Does Cobbetts have a preference as to where trainees should complete their LPC?
We have developed the LPC+ in conjunction with the College of Law. Trainees therefore will need to complete their LPC+ at the College of Law, of which the electives modules are completed in the Manchester branch.
What is the firms CSR policy?
There are three main strands to our CSR strategy:
Community support.
Partners and staff link up with local charities and voluntary bodies, such as Business in the Community, to donate our time and our expertise. The projects we work on benefit our own personal development as well as the communities within which we work and live.
Every year our trainees are involved in a Community day. Previous activities have involved assisting with the upkeep of a local community centre and volunteering at an activity centre for disabled and disadvantaged children. This scheme is not only a great way to give something back to our communities, but it also helps our trainees personal development.
Ethical purchasing and consumption of goods and services.
We encourage all our staff to make informed, ethical decisions when buying goods and services for the firm and we encourage environmental awareness when using or disposing of items, for instance, by recycling printer cartridges, mobile phones and CD-ROMs. In addition, all our offices have motion-sensor-controlled lighting systems to reduce the amount of wasted electricity.
Charity of the Year.
Working with a charity helps us build stronger relationships with the communities in which we operate. Each year, we nominate and vote for a single charity on which to focus our fundraising efforts. Charities we have worked with in recent years include Cancer Research, NSPCC, Macmillan Cancer Research, the Alzheimers Society and the British Heart Foundation. Our current charity of the year is Help the Hospices
As a firm, our aim is to raise as much money as possible for worthwhile causes such as these.
